One year ago, today, the governor of Texas, called for all non-essential businesses to start a work from home order. And Essential business to implement a 10-person limit with social distancing and face protection. And although the county I was in never heard of COVID-19 or had any known cases, as the pastor of two local congregations I had to shut them down. As my conference president stated this sort of thing has happened to the church 102 years ago, and we came back stronger than ever.
Funny how history repeats it’s self even though a lot of medical, science, and technology knowledge has increased we are still impaired by something we can’t see. I have long believed that allergies, colds, flu, cancers, and other viruses that we can’t see the microscopic element that attacks our bodies are the devices of Satan. And though we can see their results by coughing, sneezing, tumors, the lack of energy, death, and many other symptoms, it is still an invisible force that is the root cause.
Scripture talks about this invisible force and can put in our minds what is really going on. I’ll start with Revelation 12 and in verses 7-9 we see that there is war in heaven and that Satan with his evil angels was cast down to earth the planet we live on. Jesus confirms this in Luke 10:18 when he states he saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Jesus gives us a promise in verses Luke 10:19,20 when he says Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and overall the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven. Jesus thanks the His Father in verse 21 stating You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent.
This controversy between Christ and Satan still exists today and we are living in amongst the battle that He has already won. And though we can’t see what is really happening around us we can be assured that He is always with us. By the end of March 2020, God gave me another mission away from Texas. He has not allowed any harm to me or my family. We have been kept safe from COVID-19, and His promise that I can rejoice because I am written in his book keeps me going strong.
